                                                    NIGHTMARE ON NORTH STREET
                                                    by Brianna R.

                                                    _
I returned to the home where I first met bassist Rob Eisel of She Politica to attend Nightmare on North Street on October 22, 2011.  She Politica was playing for a Halloween party along with A Story for the Kids and Villain’s Company.

Before I continue with my review of She Politica, I would like to take a few minutes to discuss Villain’s Company.  I learned while at the party only two members of the band were able to make it, -the keyboardist and guitarist.  The keyboardist, JP Harrington, turned lead vocalist for the gathering of ghouls and boils.  Together, JP Harrington and the guitarist performed an acoustical set.  A phenomenal acoustical set.  I was disheartened to see it end.  They were majik!

She Politica ended the nights musical performances and is the reason I attended.  She Politica is a group of three men that, together, have more sound, rhythm, bass, talent and energy than the average 5 member bands currently performing.

Fresh, phunky beats collide each time I hear She Politica perform and make their mark in the Chicago music sector.  As I sit at my computer listening to their music (which I might add that you can currently listen to and download for free at http://www.shepolitica.com) initially I think back to the days of Duran Duran and The Killers.  But don’t let that fool you!  She Politica proves to be a fantastic up and coming band with their own style of originality.

I wasn’t officially introduced to Rob Eisel, bass, until hearing the band for the second time though the first time hearing them I had already been somewhat sold.  I was going to meet up with a friend and as we were walking into the house he was at I heard a band playing and asked, “Who is that?  That sounds really good!”  The response I received was, “Yeah, they are pretty good.  It’s She Politica.  They are practicing.”  I didn’t put too much thought into it or the band until the following night.

I returned to the same home She Politica had been practicing in just the night before to attend a private birthday party.  She Politica performed a short set.  What I heard at that moment was sheer genius!  Put together extremely well for a home filled with approximately 40-50 some people.  Though I did not take a head count, I am assuming my figure is much lower than the actual attendance record.  I also thought the music played sounded much better in person than what is provided on the website.  Perhaps the fact that my speakers don’t provide the bass required has something to do with it.

At both private parties I have seen She Politica perform at, another astonishing thing I had immediately noted was once She Politica began to play and the series of events that unfolded on spot.  Each time other artists had been in the home earlier playing and had a large crowd gathering.  However, when She Politica performed, everybody outside, everybody in the upper level of the home and everybody everywhere else in and around the home charged the room they were playing in and began dancing and having a good time together as an entire group.  The band immediately draws everyone’s attention.  They command the stage, the home, the attendee’s.  They have complete control.  Today, I would rate my experience with seeing them perform as a 10.

I am sure that sometime in the near future we’ll continue to see great, positive results from She Politica.  To hear She Politica LIVE, come on out to Bobby McGee’s on February 12th starting at 6:30pm for an all ages show at 10139 S. Harlem Ave. in Chicago Ridge.
