The 'God Damn Pimps' wreak havoc at Penny Road!
The Penny Road Pub's Summer Solstice Festival went out with a big bang! They defiantly saved the wildest and craziest band for last! Having been going since 8:30 a.m. that morning myself, my butt was dragging about 11 p.m. But that was very short lived as soon as the God Damn Pimps took the stage. I can only hope to portray the character of what the God Damn Pimps are all about in this report!

In the spirit of the God Damn Pimps, let’s get the conventional stuff out of the way. They are an original band out of Rockford, IL. The genre listing on the Myspace page of The God Damn Pimps is Rock / Punk / Alternative. Hollywood Records signed them to a deal in l999. The band did a 3 month coast-to-coast tour with “The Insane Clown Posse“. 15 months later their relationship with Hollywood Record dissolved. The band went on their own to produce 9 independent releases to date. Since 2000, they have played over 150 shows a year throughout the Midwest.

Now back to exactly what I witnessed at Penny Road. The only words I could come up that evening to describe what I was seeing was “Organized Musical Chaos”. I have been looking for bands to go see or listen to like this since my favorite punk parody band “The Killer Kitchen Utensils” disbanded in my high school days.
I always like to warn the weak hearted or easily offended before they go see an extreme band. These guys push extreme to the limits! You MUST have a sense of humor and open mind to see these guys. Their lyrics are wild, off-the-wall, lewd, crude, obnoxious, obscene, and vulgar. They constantly refer to sex, drugs, race and what some may consider off-color topics. So if you are easily offended and can’t take a joke, seriously - stay home!

The stage floor was bouncing, pounding and thumping like I have never seen before! I was afraid they were going to fall thru to the floor! They have a killer stage presence! They are wild, crazy, insane and all over the place! The music is hardcore heavy punk with spoken parodies in between. It’s a musical comedy act of sorts. They all execute their instruments well. I honestly could not understand what they were saying all the time while singing. But the crowd did! The crowd knew every word to every song and filled in the blanks for them. The crowd was so thick I could barley get up front to take pictures! They had the bar packed! This was one of the largest crowds I have seen at Penny Road. At one point they gave out the bass player’s cell phone number. And the rest of the night he was reading off the text messages the crowd was sending him. By the end of the night they had a crowd of people up on stage with them singing along. You can tell they love their fans. Once they were off stage their manager had his hands full with the line of people that backed up to purchase their CDs and merchandise. By 1 a.m. I had just about worn out my 2nd wind but left the bar with a big grin on my face!

If you want to go out and have a really fun time, go see The God Damn Pimps. They are seriously hysterical and rock the house!
